• Work Location: Fedex Ground ( Vaughan, ON L4H 4J4) - long-haul,  regional  and X-border routes as assigned.

Job Description

As a Truck Driver at Wig Transport Inc., responsible for the safe, timely, and efficient transportation of goods and materials across various routes within Canada.

The role requires operating commercial transport vehicles in compliance with federal and provincial transportation laws, company safety policies, and industry best practices.

The Truck Driver plays a critical role in ensuring customer satisfaction, maintaining delivery schedules, protecting cargo integrity, and upholding the professional reputation of Wig Transport Inc. This position requires a high level of responsibility, attention to detail, and commitment to safety and professionalism.  Duties and Responsibilities

Included, but are not limited to, the following:

1.     Vehicle Operation and Transportation

• Operate heavy trucks, tractor-trailers, and other commercial vehicles to transport goods and materials over short and long distances 

• Drive on assigned routes and follow delivery schedules as provided by dispatch

• Ensure safe operation of vehicles in compliance with traffic laws and transportation regulations Safety and Compliance Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles, including brakes, tires, lights, steering, and other critical systems

• Ensure compliance with all federal, provincial, and municipal transportation laws, including hours-of-service regulations

• Adhere strictly to company safety policies and procedures

• Secure cargo properly to prevent damage or loss during transit

• Maintain accurate driver logbooks and electronic logging device (ELD) records, Record mileage, fuel consumption, delivery times, and inspection results

• Complete bills of lading, delivery receipts, and other transportation documents accurately

• Communicate effectively with dispatchers regarding routes, delivery schedules, delays, or issues

• Provide updates on delivery status and report any incidents or accidents immediately

·       Adapt to changing weather conditions, routes, schedules, and operational requirements

·        Assist with loading and unloading of cargo when required 

2.Performing basic vehicle maintenance / minor repair tasks for reliable operations:

·       Conduct routine vehicle inspection

·       Checking fluid levels, tire pressure, and cleanliness

·       Identify mechanical issues and report safety concerns promptly to management

·       Preferably perform troubleshooting breakdown  and minor running repairs

·       Ensure assigned vehicles are kept in clean and road-worthy condition

·       Keep track of vehicle servicing schedules 

3.     Represent Wig Transport Inc. in a professional and courteous manner at all times

·       Interact professionally with customers, warehouse staff, and other road users

·       Ensure timely and accurate pickup and delivery of goods

·       Handle cargo with care to prevent damage and loss

·       Maintain a positive working relationship with clients and colleagues

·       Additional Responsibilities Comply with company policies, procedures, and code of conduct

4.     Perform other related duties as assigned by management 

The Truck Driver position may have to endure:

 Long hours of driving, including nights, weekends, and holidays

 Extended periods away from home on long-haul routes

 Physical activities such as lifting, bending, and securing cargo

 Working in various weather and road conditions

  Education

-       Minimum completed Secondary School credentials

  Experience

-       Min  2-5  years North American long-haul, regional and X-border (US) driving experience, primarily in tractor-trailer and double -trailer  (Train A & B) configurations.

Certification/Licensing/Endorsements/Compliances:

-       A class  license with air brake endorsement (AZ)

-       100% Clean Driver Extract – no collisions and tickets

-       HAZMAT endorsement

-       Transportation of dangerous goods (TDG) certification

-       Criminal checks

-       Fedex commercial experience approval

-       DOT/ FMCSA, and company safety regulations
